A few notes before today's exhibition opener

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Orioles are taking batting practice at Champion Stadium, which is near the happiest place on earth.

The sun is scorching and its long reach extends into the press box, where applying sunscreen is advised before filing the next blog entry.

Mike Wright is starting for the Orioles, who also brought Tyler Wilson, Pedro Beato, Chris Lee, Parker Bridwell, Chris Jones, Oliver Drake, Andrew Triggs and Ashur Tolliver. The bench includes Trey Mancini, Ozzie Martinez, Rule 5 pick Joey Rickard, L.J. Hoes, Xavier Avery and Alfredo Marte.

The Orioles summoned Michael Almanzar, Garabez Rosa and Corban Joseph from minor league camp. Joseph is the younger brother of catcher Caleb Joseph.

The home opener is tomorrow at 1:05 p.m., with Ubaldo Jimenez opposing Braves right-hander Aaron Blair. Miguel Gonzalez starts for the Orioles on Thursday against the Rays right-hander Erasmo Ramirez in Port Charlotte, and Vance Worley starts Friday against Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ in Dunedin.

Yovani-Gallardo-via-Orioles-sidebar.jpgYovani Gallardo threw his bullpen session today as scheduled. In case you missed the update, Chris Tillman said his hip felt really good after today's session, and he joked about throwing a no-hitter.

The Orioles will continue to move slowly with Tillman, withholding his first start until next week.
