Bergesen banged around (updated)

BRADENTON, Fla. - Manager Buck Showalter wanted to get four innings out of starter Brad Bergesen, but the right-hander's pitch count stands at 48 after the second. Even worse, the Orioles trail the Pirates, 4-1. The run in the first inning was unearned after Craig Tatum's error, but Bergesen surrendered four hits and walked a batter in the second. The defense let him down again, with right fielder Nolan Reimold sailing a throw over his cutoff man and allowing Gorkys Hernandez to take second base, but Bergesen was falling behind hitters and paying the price. Jason Jaramillo's two-run single increased the lead to 3-1, and Matt Diaz added a two-out RBI single after Jose Tabata walked. Bergesen is back on the mound for the third inning. Update: Bergesen didn't finish the inning. He left with two outs after walking Ronny Cedeno. He's charged with four runs (three earned) and six hits, with two walks and one strikeout. I've got him with 67 pitches, 40 for strikes. Bergesen has allowed six earned runs and 13 hits in 7 2/3 innings this spring. Former Oriole Garrett Atkins has struck out looking and grounded into a double play.
