Checking on Arrieta

Triple-A Norfolk pitcher Jake Arrieta has logged two scoreless innings today against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out one and hitting a batter. Arrieta has thrown 30 pitches, 17 for strikes. That's pretty busy for a guy who hasn't given up a run. Arrieta is coming off his worst outing, though he's raised the bar this season. He was charged with three earned runs (four total) and five hits in six innings, with four walks and four strikeouts. He had surrendered only one earned run in his first four starts. More on Arrieta: His 1.16 ERA heading into today's game led the International League, and he ranked second with a .171 opponents batting average. Robert Andino led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run, his third of the season and his 13th RBI. Andino is hitting .304 (7-for-23) with runners in scoring position this season. Josh Bell is serving as the designated hitter while Scott Moore plays third base. Corey Patterson, who's batting .333 after going 4-for-5 last night, is starting in right field.
