Chris Tillman unavailable due to core muscle injury (plus other notes)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Chris Tillman didn't start today's intrasquad game due to a "core muscle injury" that's bothered him for the past several days.

Tillman remained sore this morning and the Orioles held him out of the game as a precaution. He won't undergo an MRI unless there's no improvement later this week.

Manager Buck Showalter said the club is still evaluating the injury, which doesn't bother Tillman when he runs or throws.

Efren Navarro cleared waivers, refused an outright assignment and elected free agency. The Orioles wanted to keep him in the organization.

Mike Wright will start Tuesday's exhibition opener against the Braves in Lake Buena Vista. Tyler Wilson will follow him to the mound.

Ubaldo Jimenez is starting on Wednesday, Miguel Gonzalez on Thursday and Vance Worley on Friday. The Braves are starting Williams Perez on Tuesday and Aaron Blair on Wednesday.

Nolan Reimold will play on Tuesday.

The Orioles hold the 27th, 54th, 69th, 76th and 91st picks in the June's First-Year Player Draft.

Chaz Roe is fine after being hit on the left knee yesterday. Just a little sore.

Today's intrasquad game lasted 5 1/2 innings and ended in a scoreless tie.

Gausman-Delivers-White-Sidebar.jpgKevin Gausman struck out two of the first three batters he faced, Dariel Alvarez and L.J. Hoes, and Ryan Flaherty reached on a bunt single that led to some playful chirping in the dugout. Gausman threw 15 pitches, 10 for strikes.

Gonzalez threw eight of 14 pitches for strikes. He fanned Chris Davis and got a ground ball and popup.

Jason Garcia was impressive, staying on the mound for four outs and striking out Jimmy Paredes. He threw nine of 12 pitches for strikes.

T.J. McFarland got four groundball outs, throwing nine of his 13 pitches for strikes. Brad Brach threw nine of 12 pitches for strikes, getting a called third strike on Christian Walker. However, Steve Tolleson reached on an infield hit and Mark Trumbo misplayed Alvarez's fly ball in right field for an error.

Dylan Bundy retired all three batters he faced on 13 pitches, striking out Matt Wieters and Davis. Todd Redmond induced ground balls from all three batters he faced and threw eight of 11 pitches for strikes. Worley struck out Adam Jones while retiring the side in order on 15 pitches, nine for strikes.

Paredes singled up the middle off left-hander Cesar Cabral in the fifth inning. It's especially worth noting because he's been much worse batting from the right side. Walker doubled, but Paredes already had been removed from the game because Cabral had recorded three outs and was told to stay on the mound.

Jonathan Schoop singled off Hunter Harvey in the bottom of the fifth. Harvey induced three ground balls and left with his pitch count at 13, including 10 strikes.

Ashur Tolliver hit Hoes on the left leg in the top of the sixth inning, the final pitch of the afternoon. He retired the first two batters.
