Cliff notes (updated)

Rain has delayed the start of the Orioles-Rangers game on the same night that Texas acquired left-hander Cliff Lee from the Mariners. It appears that the Orioles will face Lee tomorrow night. Good for them. The Mariners received a package from the Rangers that included first baseman Justin Smoak, part of the same draft class that brought Brian Matusz to the Orioles. Smoak traded. Matusz delayed. It means nothing, but I still felt compelled to write it. They're actually good friends, by the way, and it's my mission to keep them connected in much the same manner as David Hernandez and Jason Berken. The Rangers are basically renting Lee for a few months. They're not expected to re-sign him after the season. You know, that whole bankruptcy thing. I'm just glad he didn't wind up in the Bronx. That would have been piling on. Adam Dunn just blew a bubble as he approached second base on a double off the left field fence. I wonder if Adam Jones receives a check in the mail when that happens. Triple-A Norfolk's Tim Bascom had a rough night against Durham, allowing five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings to inflate his ERA to 6.16. Nolan Reimold is starting at first base for the Tides, which is no longer worth mentioning. It happens every night. First baseman Joe Mahoney is 2-for-2 in his first game since moving up to Double-A Bowie. Update: Make that 3-for-3 with a home run. Nice debut. Chorye Spoone has allowed two runs and four hits in five innings against Trenton, with one walk and six strikeouts. Single-A Frederick's Ryan Berry allowed two runs and three hits in five innings against Potomac, with one walk and six strikeouts.
