Detwiler rehab start Wednesday at Potomac

The Nationals have scheduled Ross Detwiler for a rehabilitation start for Potomac Wednesday night against the Frederick Keys at Pfitzner Stadium. Detwiler, who has been recovering from a hip injury, is schedule to make one start in Potomac Wednesday and then on to Harrisburg. It has not been decided how many starts he will get with the Senators. Manager Jim Riggleman is pleased with Detwiler's progress. "It is encouraging. I know he had a good session down there. We have been getting good reports from (minor league pitching coordinator) Spin Williams and (Gulf Coast Nationals pitching coach) Mark Grater down there in Florida watching him work. He has got to show he is healthy. He can't go down to the minor leagues and not get outs and come back here and pitch. Pretty much anybody who is pitching in the minor leagues, unless your name is Roger Clemens, you basically have to get guys out because there are five guys in the big leagues. If you are better than one of those guys then we will make the change. If we have five guys throwing well than we will have to reevaluate the situation as to what we do with Ross. He pitched really well the second time he was in the big leagues with us last year (1.90 ERA in September last season). We anticipate he will pitch good and force the issue but we are not going to assume that." Detwiler says he feel he is back to 100 percent. "Great. Everything feels great. I missed spring training so this is like my spring training right now." Ross expects to make more than just a couple of starts in the minors. "It is going to be longer than that because I am not stretched out. My last outing was four innings in Florida."
