Feeling no relief

Adam Jones has homered in two straight games. Nick Markakis has lifted his average to .288. Matt Wieters is batting .318. Ty Wigginton has six homers and 12 RBIs. There's your morning cup of good news. Take small sips so it'll last longer. Once Koji Uehara comes off the disabled list, and it could happen after his two scheduled appearances at Double-A Bowie this week, the Orioles will have to make room for him in the bullpen. I'm assuming that Alberto Castillo will return to Triple-A Norfolk once the Orioles need a starter - perhaps Brad Bergesen or Jake Arrieta - for their May 1 game at Camden Yards. Kam Mickolio could join him once Uehara is ready. He's carrying a 7.36 ERA after three appearances, with three runs, five hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. He served up a three-run homer to Kevin Youkilis last night that proved especially damaging as the Orioles rallied in the ninth. Mickolio would be the simple move. Matt Albers brings the complication that he's out of options and would have to clear waivers. The question becomes: Are the Orioles out of patience with him? Albers gave up the three-run shot to Marco Scutaro that ruined another outstanding effort by Brian Matusz and made the right-hander 0-3 with a 9.35 ERA. He's allowed nine runs and 10 hits, and walked seven, in 8 2/3 innings. Brady Anderson talked about Albers during his MASN debut last night, and again when we spoke on the phone after the game. Albers makes a great pitch, then leaves the ball over the plate and gets hammered. You can't believe it's the same guy. His stuff can be downright nasty, but he can't always duplicate it. Albers and Will Ohman are tied for the team lead with 10 appearances, so he's had plenty of chances. You wonder if the Orioles are willing to risk losing him on waivers and attempt to outright him to Norfolk. I wonder why Jason Berken's only pitched four times, but that's another subject. Shameless plug alert: I'm appearing on O's Xtra today. Maybe a jacket and tie will bring the team some luck. If that's true, I'll wear a suit to bed tonight.
