Gausman's next start (Mike Wright optioned)

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -The Orioles optioned pitcher Mike Wright to Triple-A Norfolk before today's game against the Braves.

With this move, the Orioles have 37 players left in camp.

Wright still could be the fifth starter on April 15. Manager Buck Showalter will remind the media that optioned pitchers remain in the running.

Wright allowed nine earned runs (11 total) and 17 hits four appearances over 9 2/3 innings. In his last outing against the Twins, he surrendered five runs and seven hits in two innings in Fort Myers.

Meanwhile, Kevin Gausman gets the start on Wednesday against the Rays in Port Charlotte, the final road game on the Grapefruit League schedule.

The Orioles aren't hiding him from a division rival.

Manager Buck Showalter has been sending some of his starters to the minor league camp. Gausman and Dylan Bundy pitched Friday on separate fields and Ubaldo Jiménez struck out 10 batters in a game earlier this week at Twin Lakes Park.

The Rays are starting Erasmo Ramirez on Wednesday. The Orioles finally will face a right-handed starter. It's been a while for them.

Gausman will be working on normal rest for his opening day assignment against the Blue Jays.

No word on Thursday's starters for the game between the Orioles and Tigers in Sarasota.

Mychal Givens and Oliver Drake will follow starter Wade Miley to the mound this afternoon at Disney, where the temperature is expected in the 80s. Feels more like the 90s in the press box, where the sun hammers writers in the front row.

The Orioles brought pitchers Luis Gonzalez, Jimmy Yacabonis, Tanner Chleborad, Stefan Crichton and Ryan Meisinger; catchers Austin Wynns and Stuart Levy; infielders Adrian Marin, Sean Coyle, Garabez Rosa and Jeff Kemp; and outfielders Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays from minor league camp.
