Hall and Rodriguez chosen for All-Star Futures Game

The top draft picks by the Orioles over the past two years will participate in the 2019 All-Star Futures Game, to be held July 7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Single-A Frederick left-hander DL Hall and Single-A Delmarva right-hander Grayson Rodriguez have been chosen on the American League side.

The format has changed for the annual event, with top prospects divided by leagues following the U.S. vs. World matchups of the last 20 years.

Hall, 20, is 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 13 games (12 starts) with the Keys in his first season in the Carolina League. He's surrendered only one home run, walked 38 batters and struck out 73 in 48 2/3 innings.

Pitching for Delmarva last summer, Hall registered a 2.10 ERA and 1.17 WHIP and held South Atlantic League hitters to a .203 average in 94 1/3 innings.

Rodriguez, 19, is 7-1 with a 2.21 ERA and 0.86 WHIP this season in 11 starts with the Shorebirds. He's surrendered only two home runs, walked 15 batters and struck out 78 in 57 innings. Opponents are batting .169 against him.

Rodriguez moved up two levels after appearing in nine games last summer in the Gulf Coast League.

MLB Pipeline ranked Hall as the Orioles' No. 3 prospect and Rodriguez at No. 5 back in February. However, Rodriguez has been elevated to first.

Baseball America placed Hall second and Rodriguez fifth.

Rodriguez won the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Week award in April after recording back-to-back scoreless, 10-strikeout starts. He was named the Orioles minor league Pitcher of the Month after opening the season with 14 2/3 scoreless innings and going 3-0 with a 0.54 ERA. He started for the Northern Division in the SAL All-Star Game.

Only two players at the Single-A level were chosen to the Futures Game, including Diamondbacks outfielder Alek Thomas, and Rodriguez is the lone SAL representative.

The last Delmarva player to be selected was pitcher Hunter Harvey in 2014.

Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB Pipeline, Baseball America and the 30 clubs, combined to select the rosters for the Futures Game. Every organization is represented and players from all full-season minor league teams were eligible to be selected.

The game will air on MLB Network at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Orioles activated left-hander John Means from the injured list earlier today and he's taking the mound tonight for the series opener against the Indians at Camden Yards.
