Harper hits first homer for Hagerstown

Nationals No. 1 draft pick Bryce Harper crushed his first home run of the season in the South Atlantic League on Wednesday night. Harper hit a two-run homer in the top of the third inning, giving the Single-A Hagerstown Suns a 4-0 lead at Lexington, Ky. Lexington eventually rallied to win 6-4 in the second game of a doubleheader. A source at the game reported, "the homer came with one on and no outs. It was a line drive shot that didn't arc very high at all and found its way over the wall. Harper calmly rounded the bases as if it was expected." Harper, the Suns' right fielder, finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs. He went 1-for-2 with a walk in the opening game of the twinbill and is now batting .240. He will make his home debut at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, Md., on Friday night at 6:35 p.m.
