Harper homers again for 6-4 walk-off win

Both teams jump on the board quickly in the Sunday finale.

The Phillies' César Hernández slammed a 2-0 Gio Gonzalez offering over the left field wall to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. He now has homers in his last two at-bats in the series, three for the season.

The Nationals' Adam Eaton answered with a double to begin the bottom of the first. Anthony Rendon then bounced a ground-rule double over the left-center field wall to score Eaton and tie the game at 1-1.

Bryce Harper then launched a no-doubter signature two-run shot over the right-center field wall to give the Nationals a 3-1 lead. It is his third homer of the season.

After three innings, the Nationals lead the Phillies 3-1.

Update: Through seven innings, Gonzalez has done a nice job of calming down after giving up a run in the first at-bat. The Phillies have managed only two hits over the next six innings.

After 6 1/2 innings, the Nationals are up 3-1.

Update II: The Phillies rallied in the eighth. With one out, Hernández singled. Daniel Nava delivered a single and made it second on an error by Jayson Werth. The ball went all the way to the wall, allowing Hernández to score. Gonzalez was then lifted and received a nice ovation from the 29,774 in attendance.

Facing Koda Glover, Tommy Joseph singled to bring in Nava.

Gonzalez lasted 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. He tossed 105 pitches, 61 for strikes.

After 7 1/2 innings, the game is even again at 3-3.

Update III: The Nationals' bullpen woes continue. The Phillies got a double from Aaron Altherr off Blake Treinen to begin the ninth. Pinch-hitter Odúbel Herrera grounded in front of the plate to move Altherr to third. With one out, Freddy Galvis's fielder's choice scored Altherr when Daniel Murphy's throw home to Matt Wieters got away from the catcher on the tag attempt.

With two outs, Treinen allowed two more baserunners on a Hernández single and a walk to Nava. With the bases loaded, Shawn Kelley replaced Treinen. He recorded a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The Phillies lead the Nationals 4-3 in the ninth after trailing 3-1 after seven frames.

Update IV: Facing Joaquin Benoit in the ninth and one out, Chris Heisey walked. Eaton followed with a single to put two men on. Rendon lined out to right field.

Harper, on a full count, blasted a three-run shot over the center field wall for a walk-off homer. The Nationals win 6-4. Harper was 0-for-5 against Benoit before the homer. Incredible stuff. Incredible.
