Hunter pitches simulated game (and Wieters note)

ARLINGTON, Texas - Orioles reliever Tommy Hunter just completed his simulated game at Globe Life Park, as the club determines whether he's ready to go on an injury rehab assignment or perhaps be activated from the disabled list.

David Lough and Ryan Flaherty took their swings against Hunter, who's on the DL with a strained left groin. Coaches Wayne Kirby, Bobby Dickerson and Einar Diaz also took turns.

No stats will be kept on this game, of course.

Manager Buck Showalter stood on the field during Hunter's one inning. Pitching coach Dave Wallace and bullpen coach Dom Chiti also watched from behind the cage.

Hunter could throw another simulated game on Saturday at Camden Yards, go on an injury rehab assignment or come off the disabled list.

The Orioles have won five straight games in Arlington - six including the 2012 wild card game. Per the PR staff, the last time the Orioles won five in a row here during the regular season was Aug. 17, 1983 to July 23, 1984.

The last time the Orioles won six straight in Arlington during the regular season was May 27, 1982 to May 14, 1983.

The Orioles are 22-8 (.733) when scoring four runs or more and 8-19 (.296) when scoring three or fewer.

Nick Markakis' home run last night was his first on the road since May 23, 2013 in Toronto off right-hander Brandon Morrow, a span of 89 games.

Markakis' 341 (46-135) career average at GLP is his highest in any American League ballpark.

Chris Davis' solo shot was his first at Globe Life Park as an opponent.

The silent treatment after a home run never gets old. Davis handled it perfectly last night.

If you'd like to order the K Cancer T-shirt worn by Markakis and a few other Orioles, here's the link. Part of the proceeds go toward LUNGevity.

Note: Matt Wieters just played catch with bench coach John Russell for the fourth time since being cleared to throw.

Wieters stood a few feet behind the left field line while Russell gradually moved near second base, increasing the distance on the throws.
