Jimmy Paredes on his wrist injury (plus Blue Jays lineup)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Jimmy Paredes tried to force a smile this morning while talking to reporters at his locker, but the disappointment over his latest injury kept pushing to the surface.

Paredes began last season on the disabled list with a strained lower back, and now he's wearing a plastic cast on his left hand today after spraining his wrist.

An X-ray taken last night confirmed the injury.

If it's any consolation, the injury could have been much worse after Paredes bent back the wrist on a diving attempt in the outfield in Port Charlotte.

"No, it's not broken," he said, "thanks to God."

Paredes isn't certain how long he'll be in the cast.

"I don't know anything," he said. "I'm going to go back to the training room and we'll see what's going on and check it out. We'll see later."

Paredes exited the game with one out in the second inning after assistant athletic trainer Brian Ebel and manager Buck Showalter came out to check on him.

"When that happened, I knew it was pretty bad because I couldn't feel my hand (or) wrist," he said. "I was scared a little bit. But after a couple of seconds I could feel my hand and feel like everything is good. Now I feel a little better."

Paredes played the outfield in the Dominican Winter League. The Orioles are trying to find a position for him.

"I tried to do the best I can to do a good job," he said. "I know that's what they're looking for. I want to help the big league (team) to get a win for the city."
