Josh Wilkie no longer with the Nationals organization

Right-handed pitcher Josh Wilkie has been given his release by the Nationals. Director of player development Doug Harris confirmed today that Wilkie is no longer with the organization. Wilkie was suspended for 50 games June 2 for using a banned substance, which Wilkie described as Spice, a synthetic form of marijuana. He was eligible to return to the team last week after staying in shape pitching in Venezuela. Wilkie last pitched for the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs on May 29, and was 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 18 games this season. Wilkie was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of George Washington University in June 2006. He had 11 saves for Single-A Hagerstown in 2007 and in 2008 crafted 2.08 ERA in 46 games as a reliever for high Single-A Potomac. Wikie was an All-Star in 2009 and 2009. He had accumulated 29 saves since 2009 with the Chiefs.
