Marrero, Kimball and Carr added to 40-man

The Nationals have selected the contracts of right-handed pitchers Adam Carr and Cole Kimball and first baseman Chris Marrero, placing them on the 40-man roster. Here are my recent visits with Cole Kimball from Arizona and Chris Marrero from Puerto Rico. Also, right-handed pitcher Juan Jaime was claimed off outright waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Nationals Executive Vice President and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements Friday. Carr and Kimball have pitched exceptionally well all season and now are one win away from the Arizona Fall League championship Saturday with the Scottsdale Scorpions. Carr is 1-0 with one save and a 2.08 ERA in 10 appearances in the AFL. Kimball has one save with 15 strikeouts and an impressive 0.75 ERA in 12.0 innings for the Scorpions. Carr went 6-2 with 14 saves and a 2.75 ERA in 52 relief appearances last season with Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League and Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. The 25-year old Kimball went 8-1 with 18 saves and a 2.17 ERA with Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League and Harrisburg this season. He posted 11.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (101 K/78.2 IP) in 57 contests. Marrero hit .294 with 28 doubles, 18 home runs and 82 RBI in 141 contests last season with Harrisburg. An Eastern League All-Star in 2010, the 22-year-old posted .350 on-base and .450 slugging percentages and finished among the league's leaders with 154 hits (fourth), 236 total bases (fifth) and 82 RBI (tied for ninth). In 18 games with Leones de Ponce of the Puerto Rican Winter League, Marrero is batting .329 with four doubles and 14 RBI, rooming and playing alongside Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa.
