Maxwell called up to rejoin Nats; Bernadina returns to 'Cuse

It has been a pretty big week for Justin Maxwell. The Nationals outfielder and his wife welcomed a baby girl into the world earlier this week, and now a team source confirms the Nats will call up Maxwell from Triple A Syracuse to rejoin the team in Philadelphia as early as Thursday. The University of Maryland product Maxwell has batted .252 with 6 homers and 14 RBI in stints with the Nats in 2007 and 2009, hitting a dramatic walk off come from behind grand slam against Francisco Rodriguez September 30th last season. Maxwell struggled in spring training, but is batting 5-15 (.333), with 2 doubles, 5 runs, 2-4 SB, 2 RBI, .990 OPS and a .524 OBP in 4 games with the Chiefs. The team officially announced that OF Roger Bernadina has been optioned to Syracuse. 25-year old Bernandina went 0-1 in one game since being recalled on April 11th. It would make sense that the Maxwell call up and Bernadina send down were related, but that hasn't been officially announced yet. The team is also expected to call up starter Scott Olsen and send a reliever to Syracuse.

An impressive night on the farm: Three shutouts
Post-game notes: A winless homestand
