Minor league notes: Severino has not allowed a stolen base to begin season

Double-A Harrisburg catcher Pedro Severino has started the season on a stunning streak. Seven base runners have attempted to steal second base on him and seven have failed.

His range factor, which is putouts plus assists divided by games played, is also double digits (11.0). That is also a career high. The 21-year-old is in his first season with the Senators.

His teammate, right-hander Austin Voth, tossed six scoreless innings in his initial start, allowing three hits, striking out seven and walking one. Right-hander Paolo Espino did not allow a run in six innings, yielding only one hit and one walk, while striking out four. Joe Ross has recorded six strikeouts. Tim Alderson also allowed just one run in five innings in his first start.

Second baseman Tony Renda is hitting .471 (8-for-17) with a double, three runs and one stolen base. First baseman Shawn Pleffner is 4-for-11 (.364) with a double and a walk. Third baseman Matt Skole has smacked a home run. Skole and Kevin Keyes each have two RBIs.

Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs right fielder Caleb Ramsey already has six hits and is batting .429. He has a home run and five RBIs. Ramsey's slugging percentage is .643. Left fielder Mark Minicozzi has five hits in first three games, including two doubles. Derrick Robinson and Jason Martinson each have four base knocks. Dan Butler and Emmanuel Burris each have three hits.

Taylor Jordan (1-0) has pitched six scoreless innings. He has allowed just two hits, struck out five and walked only one. Hill went six innings, surrendering two unearned runs. A.J. Cole's ERA is 1.80 through his first five innings. Rafael Martin has the team's first save and four strikeouts.

High Single-A Potomac starter Wander Suero tossed six scoreless innings in his first start. He allowed only three hits and walked one. Nick Pivetta (0-1) struck out a team-high seven in Thursday's game through five innings, giving up one run and three hits. Blake Schwartz has four strikeouts in his six innings. Brian Rauh (1-0) has not allowed a run in five innings.

Khayyan Norfork and Isaac Ballou have hit homers for the P-Nats. Some guy named Jayson Werth has the other HR.

Low Single-A hurler Luis Reyes has seven strikeouts and Drew Van Orden five punchouts to begin the season. They both finished five innings in their first starts. First baseman Jose Marmolejos-Diaz had two doubles. Diaz, Dale Carey, Raudy Read and Wilman Rodriguez have thumped homers to begin the season.
