More on Nick Lee and Arizona Fall League coaching staff

Southpaw Nick Lee spent his entire season at Double-A Harrisburg. In 45 appearances, the 25-year-old Lee went 3-1 with a 4.32 ERA with two saves. In 50 innings, Lee walked 42 batters and struck out 55.

Lee pitched 1 1/3 innings Tuesday as Glendale rallied to beat Scottsdale 8-7 in Arizona Fall League play. The Desert Dogs scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth after trailing 3-0, 5-3 and 6-3.

Lee gave up an unearned run on two hits with three walks, but his ERA is still at 2.35. He has surrendered only two earned runs in six games in Arizona.

Glendale-Desert-Dogs.jpgLee was selected to play in the AFL because the Nationals love his stuff, and he still is working on locating, according to Glendale pitching coach Sam Narron.

"He's got the big arm, as well, left-handed pitcher who is gets up to 94, 95 mph sometimes," Narron said. "He's got to continue to work on his command. He's gotten better with it. He is starting to get his feet underneath him and we're looking for good things the rest of the way. He hadn't seen many hitters, if at all, after the season ended.

"He went to instructional league and the day he was supposed to throw we got washed out. He hadn't seen a hitter in a month and some change (before arriving in Arizona)."

Three pitching coaches assist 20 pitchers on the Desert Dogs, drawing from the White Sox, Astros, Cardinals, Nationals and Dodgers. Narron, working alongside pitching coaches Dernier Orozco and Greg Sabat, looks to make each prospect better by comparing notes and advice.

"More eyes are always better," Narron said. "I had the good fortune of having Greg Sabat as a coach when I had a spring training with Detroit and he was there. He and I already had a little bit of a relationship, and Dernier from the Cardinals.

"Always seeing the way different organizations look at guys is interesting. We've had a good rapport together. Communication is great. If they see something they come to you and say, 'Hey, what do you think with this guy?' It's just good to see things through a different lens, for sure."
