More pregame notes from Bowie

President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail, director of baseball operations Matt Klentak and director of player development John Stockstill are in Bowie. So is instructor Mike Bordick. Alfredo Simon is on a pitch count of 75-80 today. Double-A Bowie manager Gary Kendall isn't sure how long Simon will remain on the roster. "It's a stop along the way," Kendall said. "We didn't know if it was going to be one or maybe two starts. I don't have that information. But we're happy to have him. He's going to help us out because it makes our bullpen a little stronger. The guy who was going to get the start (Rick Zagone) now goes in the bullpen. It really helps us going to Erie." Kendall saw Simon in extended spring training last year while he served as short-season Single-A Aberdeen's manager. "He showed up every morning, put in his work, and he was really great with our young Latin players, along with everybody else. He really took an interest in some of our young kids down there," Kendall said. "He was a good teammate. That's all I know of him. Seeing him out here, this is the first time I've seen him since last year, and he still had a big smile. We're happy to have him." Steve Lerud is catching Simon this morning because Caleb Joseph started the last two nights.
