Nats announce promotions for DiPuglia and Scialabba

The Nationals today announced promotions for a pair of critical elements in their player development staff on Wednesday, Johnny DiPuglia and Mark Scialabba.

DiPuglia is now vice president, assistant general manager of international operations and Scialabba receives the title of assistant general manager of player development.

DiPuglia has been the vice president of international operations since November 2015. He was also the director of Latin American operations from 2014-2015 and director of international operations from 2009-2014. The 2020 season will be his 11th with the Nats. He previously spent 11 seasons with the Red Sox.

DiPuglia was named the 2019 International Scout of the Year by the Scout of the Year Foundation. He has had a hand in the signing and development of Juan Soto, Victor Robles, Wander Suero, Wilmer Difo, Raudy Read and others.

This will be Scialabba's 15th season with the Nats. He has been the director of player development for the club since November 2013. He worked as the director of minor league operations from 2009-13.

Scialabba has worked to improve the Nats' player plans, analytics, contracts, roster management, budgets, Dominican Academy operations and player personnel decisions. Scialabba played baseball and graduated with a degree in economics from Williams (Mass.) College and went on to earn master's degrees in business administration and sports management from the University of Massachusetts.

At Williams, Scialabba was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2002 and hit .437 (38-126) with nine doubles, 13 homers and 55 RBIs.
