Orioles acquire Stubbs (plus other notes)

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he anticipated at least one more trade to go down later today, perhaps before the first pitch. And according to FOXsports.com, the club has acquired outfielder Drew Stubbs, claimed off release waivers from the Rangers. The Orioles recently made the acquisition official.

Executive vice president Dan Duquette has been searching for another outfielder, one who can play center field.

Stubbs, 31, has appeared in 39 games between the Braves and Rangers and put together a .259/.343/.414 slash line with three home runs and six RBIs. He's career .244/.314/.396 hitter in parts of eight major league seasons, the first four with the Reds.

The Rangers released Stubbs on Sunday and he is expected to join the Orioles on Friday.

Stubbs plays all three outfield positions, the majority of his starts coming in center.

As for left-hander Kyle Lobstein, Showalter indicated that the reliever won't be added to the roster on Friday. It appears now that we may never see him.

Showalter was hesitant to say too much about the Lobstein trade, though Lobstein has been designated for assignment.

"The end game will be revealed soon, at some point," Showalter said.

Adam Jones' left hamstring has improved to the point where he may play tonight, and the chances are good that he's in Friday night's lineup against the Yankees.

Catcher Caleb Joseph is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Chris Tillman's right shoulder felt good again after today's flat ground session.

Showalter said reliever Darren O'Day is "proceeding." He later said O'Day is "progressing well." But nothing on a timetable for the right-hander to get back on a mound.

The Orioles will have six minor leaguers playing for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League, and seventh spot is open for them.

The roster includes pitchers Jesus Liranzo, Tanner Scott and Jim Yacabonis, catcher Austin Wynns, infielder Adrian Marin and outfielder D.J. Stewart.
