Orioles claim David Hale off waivers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Orioles claimed right-hander David Hale off waivers from the Rockies today and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

The Rockies designated Hale, 28, for assignment on Friday.

orioles_new_birdhead.jpgHale made two relief appearances with the Rockies this season and allowed three runs and four hits. He also walked two batters.

In two starts with Triple-A Albequerque, Hale allowed one run and five hits and struck out seven batters over six innings.

Hale was 5-5 with a 6.09 ERA in 17 games (12 starts) with the Rockies in 2015. He made two starts with the Braves in 2013, allowing one run, walking one and struck out 14 over 11 innings. He went 4-5 with a 3.30 ERA in 45 appearances the following season, including six starts, before the Braves traded him to the Rockies with Gus Schlosser on Jan. 30, 2015 for minor leaguers Jose Briceno and Chris O'Dowd.

Hale, the Braves' third-round pick in 2009 out of Princeton University, is 25-33 with a 3.93 ERA in 126 minor league games, including 82 starts.
