Orioles lineup doesn't include Davis

The offensive funk that followed Chris Davis into the 2018 season won't leave him. It's wrapped around him like a scarf.

Davis went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts last night in Toronto and is batting .152/.232/.232 with four doubles, four home runs, 15 RBIs and nine runs scored in 220 plate appearances. He's drawn 19 walks and struck out 81 times.

The Orioles are facing a left-hander tonight, J.A. Happ, as their series continues in Toronto and Davis is on the bench. Trey Mancini moves to first base, with Joey Rickard leading off and playing left field.

Davis is 4-for-23 (.174) with two doubles, two home runs and 11 strikeouts lifetime against Happ. Meanwhile, left-handers are batting .158 against Happ this season.

As if Davis needed another challenge tonight.

Davis has seven hits in his last 71 at-bats with 33 strikeouts over 20 games. His 1,283 career strikeouts are only 22 behind Cal Ripken Jr. for the most in club history. Ripken played 21 seasons with the Orioles. Davis is in his eighth season.

Happ faced the Orioles on April 9 and held them to one run with nine strikeouts over six innings in a 7-1 win. Manny Machado homered off him.

Happ is 5-6 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.250 WHIP in 16 career games (15 starts) against the Orioles over 92 innings. Machado is only 8-for-31 (.258), but it includes a double, triple and three home runs.

Pedro Alvárez, who rarely plays against left-handers, is 6-for-12 with two doubles and a home run. Rickard is 4-for-9 with a double and home run.

Mark Trumbo is 1-for-19 with a double and seven strikeouts. He's the designated hitter tonight.

Danny Valencia is batting cleanup. Craig Gentry is in right field.

Andrew Cashner has registered five quality starts and gone 1-2 in that period. He shut out the Blue Jays on four hits over a season-high seven innings on April 10 and didn't get the decision in the Orioles' 2-1 loss.

Cashner has made three career starts against the Blue Jays and allowed only four runs in 20 innings for a 1.80 ERA. All four runs came at Rogers Centre over 13 innings.

The rotation has allowed only two earned runs in 19 innings on the road trip.

On this date in 1986, right fielder Lee Lacy drove in six runs on three home runs and a single in an 18-9 win over the Yankees in the Bronx. Tippy Martinez allowed three runs over the final 3 1/3 innings and earned the save because he entered with the Orioles ahead 7-6 and the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

At 4 hours, 16 minutes, it was the longest nine-inning game in American League history at the time.
