Orioles lineup doesn't include Machado (updated)

Machado-Swing-White-Sidebar.jpgManny Machado is missing from the Orioles' lineup for tonight's series opener against the Red Sox at Camden Yards.

Jace Peterson is playing shortstop and batting ninth.

Joey Rickard is leading off and playing right field. Danny Valencia was sick yesterday and didn't play, but returns tonight as the cleanup hitter.

Chris Davis did some early hitting today and is batting seventh.

The Orioles haven't announced a roster move, but closer Zach Britton said he's excited to be coming off the disabled list today.

Dylan Bundy is making his third start against the Red Sox this season, the first two coming at Fenway Park. He's allowed five earned runs and seven total with 14 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings.

Rafael Devers, Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi homered off Bundy on May 19 in the Orioles' 6-3 loss.

Bundy is 3-6 with a 4.79 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in 14 career games (10 starts) against the Red Sox. Brock Holt is 6-for-11 with two doubles. Dustin Pedroia is 6-for-19 (.316) with a double.

Betts is 7-for-25 (.280) with three home runs, but he's on the disabled list with an abdominal strain. He's 9-for-22 with four doubles, two home runs and six runs scored against the Orioles this season and his 14 career home runs are the most against any opponent.

Steven Wright, in the Red Sox's rotation with Drew Pomeranz on the disabled list, has registered a 1.57 ERA in seven games this season. In his only start, he shut out the Tigers on two hits over seven innings. Wright worked 4 2/3 innings against the Orioles on May 18 and allowed two runs and three hits, including Jonathan Schoop's home run.

Schoop is 5-for-12 (.417) with three home runs against Wright. Trey Mancini has two hits in five at-bats and both are home runs. Machado is 2-for-15 (.133) with a double against Wright.

The Red Sox and Giants are tied for the major league lead with a .264 average. Boston ranks first in runs scored with 341 and second in home runs with 95.

Major League Baseball has announced a scoring change from Saturday afternoon's game in Toronto. Machado is now credited with a stolen base in the ninth inning instead of advancing to second on defensive indifference.

Single-A Frederick's Ryan McKenna, Preston Palmeiro, Alex Wells and Cristian Alvarado will play for the Northern Division team in the Carolina League All Star Classic on Tuesday, June 19 in Zebulon, N.C.
