Orioles place Iglesias on injured list (plus Orioles lineup)

The Orioles have placed shortstop José Iglesias on the 10-day injured list today and recalled infielder Ramón Urías from the alternate camp site in Bowie.

Iglesias is dealing with a left quadriceps strain and has been limited to sporadic appearances in the lineup and in the field due to his injury. Manager Brandon Hyde suggested yesterday that the IL had become a consideration, though the Orioles hate to lose a bat that's been extremely productive.

They're left with no choice.

Iglesias-Throws-Black-Sidebar.jpgSigned as a free agent in December, Iglesias is slashing .400/.414/.564 with nine doubles and 10 RBIs in 16 games. He's been used three times as the designated hitter to ease the strain on his leg.

The move with Iglesias is retroactive to Sunday and the Orioles are hoping that extended rest, without leaving them shorthanded, will enable Iglesias to play full-time upon his return.

Urías will wear No. 87 and his first appearance will be his major league debut.

The Orioles placed Urías on the taxi squad for its trip to Philadelphia. He's already on the 40-man roster.

The Orioles claimed Urías off waivers from the Cardinals in February.

Urías provides middle infield insurance. Andrew Velazquez started at shortstop last night and made a series of impressive plays, showing off tremendous range. Pat Valaika also has started at shortstop in Iglesias' absence.

Meanwhile, left-hander Wade LeBlanc will try to lower his 7.13 ERA and 1.472 WHIP accumulated over four starts and 17 2/3 innings. He's lasted 3 1/3 innings in his last two starts and surrendered nine runs and 13 hits with four walks.

LeBlanc has four career appearances against the Blue Jays, including one start. He's allowed 13 runs and 22 hits with nine walks in 17 innings.

Randal Grichuk is 3-for-5 with a double, triple, home run and five RBIs against LeBlanc. Teoscar Hernández is 4-for-6 with a double and a home run.

Grichuk is a career .342/.383/.792 hitter (41-for-120) in 31 games against the Orioles, with 15 doubles, 13 home runs and 30 RBIs.

Hanser Alberto gets the night off tonight and Chance Sisco is batting leadoff. Chris Davis stays on the bench.
