Orioles recall Sisco from Triple-A Norfolk

The Orioles made the anticipated roster move this afternoon, leaving one more to go before opening their series Tuesday night against the Rangers.

Catcher Chance Sisco has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk as the replacement for Austin Wynns, who was optioned after Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Giants. The Orioles didn't wait any longer to make it official.

A slow start didn't weigh down Sisco, who's hit safely in nine of his last 11 games and posted a .378 average (16-for-42) with four doubles, three home runs, 12 RBIs and a .431 on-base percentage.

Since April 28, Sisco has registered a .353 average and .451 on-base percentage with seven doubles, 10 home runs and 14 walks.

The Orioles optioned Sisco, 24, in spring training in order to allow him to continue his development, most importantly behind the plate. He was 13-for-34 (.382) with a double, four home runs and 11 RBIs in Grapefruit League games, but didn't break camp with the team.

Defense is a priority and will make it much easier for Sisco to stick in the majors. He's thrown out six of 33 runners attempting to steal this season.

The Orioles optioned Sisco twice last summer after he made the club out of spring training. He slashed .181/.288/.269 with eight doubles, two home runs and 16 RBIs in 63 games and struck out 66 times in 160 at-bats.

Sisco joins the Orioles as they prepare to make the first selection in tonight's First-Year Player Draft. Sisco was chosen in the second round in 2013 out of Santiago High School in Corona, Calif.

He may be curious whether the Orioles pick Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman.

Stevie Wilkerson was optioned on Sunday and the Orioles likely will activate first baseman Chris Davis from the injured list to fill the vacant spot.

Davis has been sidelined with a sore left hip. He took some swings yesterday and apparently convinced manager Brandon Hyde that he was ready.
