Orioles recall Yacabonis and Sisco

SEATTLE - The Orioles have increased their active roster to 28 players as they continue their road trip with three games against the Mariners at Safeco Field.

Pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis and catcher Chance Sisco were recalled from Triple-A Norfolk this morning and are available for tonight's game.

Yacabonis-Back-White-sidebar.jpgYacabonis has made four starts among six appearances with the Orioles this season and registered an overall ERA of 8.38 and a 1.759 WHIP in 19 1/3 innings. He's 3-5 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.224 WHIP in 21 starts with the Tides.

The Orioles have used Yacabonis as the 26th man and started him in three doubleheaders. He also made a June 28 start against the Mariners and allowed two runs and six hits in four innings.

The starter for Wednesday's game against the Mariners is listed as TBD, though it's Andrew Cashner's turn in the rotation. Manager Buck Showalter could lay out the plan for Yacabonis later today.

Yacabonis hasn't pitched for the Orioles since Aug. 25 against the Yankees, when he was charged with six runs in 3 2/3 innings. He's approaching his innings limit for 2018 with 95 1/3 already in the books. But he could make another start, this time without the 26th man designation.

Sisco broke camp with the Orioles and has been optioned twice. He's batting .195/.306/.289 in 58 games with the Orioles and .242/.344/.352 in 38 games with Norfolk.

The Orioles always summon a third catcher for the final month of the season and Sisco was the logical choice, especially with Andrew Susac injured and on the restricted list after leaving Norfolk.

Sisco has collected 14 hits in his last 45 at-bats. However, the Orioles are more focused on his work behind the plate, especially his throwing and ability to slow down the game and stay relaxed.

Sisco has thrown out 5 of 37 runners attempting to steal with Norfolk and 12 of 38 with the Orioles.

Showalter must decide whether to give Sisco another extended look or just work him into a mix that includes Caleb Joseph and rookie Austin Wynns.

The 40-man roster still has two openings for additional moves later in the month.
