Orioles reunite with Patterson

The Orioles agreed to terms today with outfielder Corey Patterson on a minor league contract. Patterson will report to extended spring training tomorrow. You might remember that Patterson played for the Orioles in 2006 and 2007. He spent the 2008 season with the Reds and appeared in five games with the Nationals and 11 with the Brewers last year. Patterson signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on Dec. 9, but opted out of it on March 31 when told he wouldn't make the team out of spring training. Felix Pie could miss three months with a ruptured latissimus dorsi muscle, keeping Lou Montanez in the majors and creating the need for another outfielder at Triple-A Norfolk. I wonder if Joey Gathright feels threatened by this move. I know a few fans have brought up Patterson's name when talking about Pie. They're both former elite prospects with the Cubs who failed to meet expectations in the majors. It really is a small world after all. Also, left-hander Alberto Castillo is expected to be available in the bullpen for tonight's game in Seattle.
