Orioles select lefty McFarland in Rule 5 draft

The Orioles today announced that they have selected left-hander T.J. McFarland of the Cleveland Indians organization in the Rule 5 Draft. McFarland, 23, is 48-31 with a 3.83 ERA (618.2IP, 263ER) in 116 games (107 starts) in five minor league seasons in the Cleveland system. He went 16-8 with a 4.03 ERA (163.0IP, 73ER) in 27 starts between Double-A Akron (8-2, 2.69 ERA in 10 starts) and Triple-A Columbus (8-6, 4.82 ERA in 17 starts) in 2012. The Orioles now have 39 players on their 40-man roster. The Orioles also selected right-hander Tom Boleska from the Minnesota Twins organization in the Triple-A portion of the draft. Boleska, 26, pitched for Fargo-Moorhead in the independent American Association in 2012, going 2-1 with a 1.76 ERA (46.0IP, 9ER). In his six year professional career, Boleska is 14-13 with a 2.47 ERA (284.0IP, 78ER) in 182 games (three starts). He has struck out 268 while walking just 70 batters. Boleska was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 35th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
