Orioles select Lough's contract, Jones undergoing MRI, and other notes

WASHINGTON - The Orioles selected the contract of outfielder David Lough from Triple-A Norfolk and placed pitcher Dylan Bundy on the 60-day disabled list to create room on the 40-man roster.

Lough, 29, batted .259/.290/.310 (15-for-58), with a double, a triple, six RBIs and seven runs scored in 14 games with the Tides this season. He also hit safely in four of five postseason games with Norfolk, with a double, four walks and two runs scored.

Jones is in Baltimore today to undergo an MRI on his back. He's expected to return later for the game against the Nationals.

Jones is out of the lineup for the third consecutive game, with Parra starting in center field. The Orioles want to make certain that Jones' discomfort isn't related to something more serious than the spasms.

Parra stayed in last night's game despite feeling tightness in his right shoulder during an at-bat in the seventh inning. He said he's fine today.

Bundy officially was recalled from Double-A Bowie and placed on the 60-day DL. It's a paper move.

Closer Zach Britton underwent on MRI on his left lat muscle on Tuesday and the results were encouraging. He remains day-to-day.

Manager Buck Showalter said team orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs was encouraged by the MRI results on pitcher Hunter Harvey's right elbow. Hunter still must get an appointment with Dr. James Andrews, but the Orioles' degree of concern has lessened.

Harvey was shut down with elbow discomfort at the fall instructional league. He was on the disabled list with a strained right flexor mass.

Miguel Gonzalez played catch today after yesterday's three-inning simulated game and said his right arm feels great.

Showalter said he didn't need to remind his players today not to retaliate after last night's incident with Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon, who drilled Manny Machado on the shoulder in the ninth inning on his second high and tight pitch of the at-bat.
