Orioles non-tender Lough and settle with Reimold

The Orioles non-tendered outfielder David Lough tonight, allowing the outfielder to become a free agent. They settled with outfielder Nolan Reimold on a contract for the 2016 season.

Reimold will receive $1.3 million if he makes the opening day roster, according to sources. He joined pitcher Vance Worley as the two arbitration-eligible players who settled tonight.

Reimold, 32, batted .247/.344/.394 with five doubles, a triple, six home runs and 20 RBIs in 61 games. The former second-round pick played all three outfield positions.

Lough, 29, made $525,500 while batting .201/.241/.313 with one double, one triple, four home runs and 12 RBIs in 84 games. He was designated for assignment on Aug. 14, accepted his outright assignment and had his contract purchased on Sept. 24.

The Orioles tendered contracts to Manny Machado, Chris Tillman, Zach Britton, Brian Matusz, Mark Trumbo, Ryan Flaherty, Miguel Gonzalez and Brad Brach. The sides will exchange figures if they can't reach agreement.

Machado, 23 was the only player in the majors to appear in all 162 games. He batted .286/.359/.502 with 30 doubles, 35 home runs, 86 RBIs and 102 runs scored.

Machado was named an All-Star for the second time, won his second Gold Glove at third base and placed fourth in Most Valuable Player voting in the American League. He's arbitration-eligible for the first time after making $548,000.

Tillman, 27, was the Orioles' opening day starter. He went 11-11 with a 4.99 ERA in 31 starts this year while earning $4.315 million.

Britton, who turns 28 later this month, went 4-1 with a 1.92 ERA, 0.990 WHIP and 36 saves in 64 games and 65 2/3 innings. He led all relievers in groundball percentage at 80.4 and groundball/flyball ratio at 8.47. Britton, who earned his first career All-Star Game selection, made $3.2 million this year.

Matusz, 28, went 1-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 58 games and posted a 1.184 WHIP in 49 innings. Left-handers batted .186 against him and right-handers hit .244. Matusz averaged a career-high 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings. The former first-round pick made $3.2 million in 2015.

The Orioles acquired Trumbo from the Mariners for catcher Steve Clevenger. Trumbo, 29, made $6.9 million this year while batting a combined .262/.310/.449 with 23 doubles, 22 home runs and 64 RBIs in 142 games with the Diamondbacks and Mariners.

Flaherty, 29, made $1.075 million while batting .202/.281/.356 with eight doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 31 RBIs in 91 games. He started at six positions and homered at five.

Gonzalez, 31, went 9-12 with a 4.91 ERA and 1.396 WHIP in 26 starts over 144 2/3 innings. He made $3.275 million this year.

Brach, 29, is arbitration-eligible for the first time after making $523,000 this year. He went 5-3 with a 2.72 ERA and 1.197 WHIP in 62 games over 79 1/3 innings. Brach led Orioles relievers and ranked fifth in the league with 89 strikeouts. He registered a 1.92 ERA in his last 42 games.

The 40-man roster is down to 39 players with tonight's activity.
