Patterson trying to avoid DL

The Orioles selected Pacific catcher Joe Oliveira in the 15th round, Fresno Community College outfielder Brandon King in the 16th and Hillsborough (Fla.) CC left fielder David Richardson in the 17th. Corey Patterson remains day-to-day after aggravating a left groin injury that he originally sustained during the last homestand while running the bases in a game against Oakland. He tweaked it again in his last game, against Boston, while chasing a fly ball and trying to avoid shortstop Cesar Izturis. Patterson said he'll try to play tomorrow but definitely should be back in the lineup by the end of the week. "I'm going to come in tomorrow, treat it, try to run around and see if it's good to go," he said. Patterson is batting .235 with three doubles, three homers and six RBIs in 21 games. He's also walked eight times and stolen five bases. President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail confirmed that second baseman Brian Roberts will undergo more tests on his back in Florida. "We probably won't know the results for a couple of days," he said. MacPhail still hasn't suggested that surgery is becoming an option. Also, MacPhail said the Orioles haven't started interviewing managerial candidates. Much of the organization's focus has shifted to the draft.
