Pineiro throws five innings in GCL

Pitcher Joel Pineiro, on the minor league disabled list with a sore right shoulder, is nearing a return to Triple-A Norfolk's rotation Pineiro followed a start in a simulated game on Thursday by going five innings today with the Gulf Coast League Orioles. Pineiro allowed one run and four hits against the GCL Twins, with one walk and three strikeouts. Pineiro tossed four innings Thursday in the simulated game in Sarasota. The Orioles signed Pineiro as a minor league free agent after the Phillies released him in the spring, and he debuted with Norfolk on May 3. He made two starts with the Tides, allowing five runs and 10 hits, walking none and striking out nine in 12 1/3 innings. Pineiro will have to squeeze into a crowded Norfolk rotation that currently has no room for Brad Bergesen or Steve Johnson. Miguel Gonzalez is starting tonight, and he'll be followed in the rotation by Jamie Moyer, Zach Britton, Chris Tillman and Jason Berken. Also, shortstop Adrian Marin, the third-round pick out of Gulliver Prep near Miami, committed his second error in two games with the GCL team. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts today and is 1-for-8 with an RBI in two starts. Andres Aguilar, the 18-year-old outfielder from Guatemala, started in left field today and went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and an assist. No updates on outfielder Nolan Reimold. He's undergoing another examination today, his third in less than a week according to my math, after seeing a second cervical specialist yesterday.
