Roster move coming (w/quotes added)

Yes, another one. The Orioles will reveal later tonight or early tomorrow how they'll create room on the 25-man roster for catcher Matt Wieters, who's eligible to come off the disabled list tomorrow and will start behind the plate. The choice still appears to come down to Craig Tatum, who has an option remaining, or Jake Fox, who would have to be designated for assignment. Good luck with that one. The Orioles love Fox's versatility. He can catch and play both infield and outfield corners, and he has some power. Tatum has impressed the team with the way he's handled the pitching staff and how he's provided a little more offense than anticipated. "This is going to be a tough one," interim manager Juan Samuel said. "Those guys have been doing a good job for us." If you ask me, I'm sending down Tatum and reminding him that a trade will free up a spot for him. It would be a temporary move. "He has done a great job for us," Samuel said. "He has done a tremendous job handling the pitching and he's come up with some key hits for us. I always thought in spring training, when the decision was being made on who we were going to take, him and (Chad) Moeller, I know a lot of guys loved Moeller calling a game and he had more time in the league, but looking at both swings, you could probably tell which swing you could get more out of. That's what I was looking at." Tatum had to win over the clubhouse because Moeller was so popular, especially with the young starters. "Chad was a good, good, good backup catcher and a lot of the guys felt comfortable with Chad," Samuel said. "When you take that away, now they feel like they have to get used to somebody else, but they have made the adjustment and Tatum has proven to those guys that he can do that and he earned their respect in that regard." Adam Jones will sit out a game in the next few days, with Felix Pie starting in center. Brian Roberts is off tomorrow. The latest report on Jim Johnson (elbow) says he'll soon throw a batting practice session, the final step before going on an injury rehab assignment. And Lou Montanez (oblique) is doing baseball-related activities. They're both working out at the minor league complex in Sarasota. "We're getting close to seeing the club we had in spring training," Samuel said.
