Showalter on Ayala, Reimold and more (updated)

BOSTON - Reliever Luis Ayala is available to pitch today after becoming dizzy yesterday at Camden Yards and spending a few hours at a local hospital. Ayala is throwing in the bullpen during batting practice to make certain that he's physically up to the task. "He wasn't feeling well and doctors took some of his vitals and decided to check it out a little further at the hospital, just to be on the safe side," said manager Buck Showalter. "I think for Louie to tell you that he wasn't feeling real well... I'm not overly concerned with it now after getting all the tests and everything back. I'm pretty sure we know what went on. Nothing deep and dark. Just something that's probably happened to one of you all." Showalter also said Nolan Reimold (hamstring) could play if needed, though the outfielder figures to get the day off. Showalter doesn't want Red Sox manager John Farrell to know how many players on his bench are available to pinch-hit late in the game. "He feels better today," Showalter said. "Richie (Bancells) thinks it's more of just a tightness there. He had a little bit of it in the spring and it went away. Hopefully, with the off-day tomorrow, we'll be able to keep him off the disabled list. But if I had to, I'd use him today." Chris Tillman will throw a bullpen session Tuesday while everyone else gets the day off. He's starting Thursday. Steve Johnson (strained lat) is scheduled to throw live batting practice today in Sarasota. He could begin an injury-rehab assignment later this week. "He's getting close," Showalter said. "He's not feeling anything. He's close to really getting it going." Showalter said Miguel Gonzalez isn't available in relief today. And he again shot down the suggestion that the Orioles could go with a six-man rotation. Nothing has changed on that topic since the winter. "It's an option, Showalter said, "but we're not going to do it at this point." Update: Johnson threw 30 pitches over the equivalent of two innings today during live batting practice at extended spring training in Sarasota.
