Taking another look at the Orioles bullpen

The Orioles won't be facing Chris Sale on Sunday in the series finale against the White Sox. Left-hander Carlos Rodon will start against Miguel Gonzalez, with Sale pushed to Monday.

The Orioles bullpen continues to lead the majors in ERA since April 29, though the figure has risen to 2.27 over 182 innings. Opponents are batting .219 in that span, which ranks fourth in the majors.

Overall, Orioles relievers rank third in the American League and sixth in the majors with a 2.86 ERA.

Orioles starters posted a 2.96 ERA in seven games on the last homestand, but the bullpen registered a 4.15 ERA by allowing eight earned runs in 17 1/3 innings.

Chaz Roe has allowed four runs and five hits over two innings in his last two appearances to raise his ERA from 0.90 to 2.45. He's stranded all 14 inherited runners, the most in his career.

Closer Zach Britton has converted 23 of 24 save opportunities, including a career-high 19 in a row, registered a 1.82 ERA and struck out 41 batters in 34 2/3 innings. Opponents are batting .219 against him.

Darren O'Day ranks sixth in the majors among relievers with a 1.16 ERA, allowing four earned runs in 31 innings. He's stranded 11 of 13 inherited runners.

Brad Brach has posted a 1.54 ERA over his last nine appearances since June 11. He's struck out 14 batters in his last 14 innings.

Tommy Hunter has registered a 2.64 ERA in his last 25 appearances since April 19. However, 10 of 24 inherited runners have scored this season.

Brian Matusz has allowed one earned run over his last 13 appearances while striking out 17 batters in 11 1/3 innings. However, seven of 12 inherited runners have scored.

Matusz stranded 32 of 37 inherited runners in 2013 and all 14 inherited in 2012 after moving to the bullpen.

White Sox outfielder Melky Cabrera is 4-for-10 lifetime against Britton, 3-for-8 with a double against O'Day, 3-for-6 against Hunter, 1-for-2 with three walks against Matusz and 1-for-2 against Brach. He's 5-for-14 against Bud Norris, who at least temporarily is working out of the bullpen.

Alexei Ramirez is 6-for-12 against Hunter and 3-for-10 with a double against Britton.
