Tate on injured list and Armstrong activated (plus lineup)

The Orioles have made an adjustment to their bullpen today by activating Shawn Armstrong from the injured list and putting Dillon Tate on the 10-day IL with a sprained right finger.

Infielder Ramón Urías has been recalled from the alternate camp site in Bowie to fill the vacant roster spot after the Pirates claimed pitcher Carson Fulmer off waivers yesterday.

Armstrong hasn't pitched since Aug. 22 due to left SI joint inflammation in his lower back. He's 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA and 0.892 WHIP in 11 games.

Tate-Fires-White-vs-LAD-Sidebar.jpgThe move with Tate is retroactive to yesterday and he won't pitch again in 2020. He made 12 appearances after beginning the season on the injured list with soreness in his right forearm and elbow and posted a 3.24 ERA and 0.840 WHIP in 16 2/3 innings.

Tate allowed six earned runs (seven total) and nine hits with five walks, 14 strikeouts and only one home run surrendered in 16 2/3 innings.

In his last outing, Tate allowed one hit and struck out two batters Sunday afternoon against the Rays.

Urías is a needed extra infielder after a Charlie Morton fastball nailed José Iglesias on the left wrist during Saturday's game. X-rays were negative. Urías is 1-for-5 with a walk and he's in tonight's lineup against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Austin Hays is starting in right field, with DJ Stewart in left, Cedric Mullins in center and Ryan Mountcastle at first base. Hays is batting second behind Mullins.

Rookie Keegan Akin is making his fifth start and seventh appearance in the majors. He tossed five scoreless innings Wednesday with a career-high nine strikeouts against the Braves.

Left-handed hitters are 1-for-14 against Akin. Right-handers are 13-for-56 (.232).

Akin has surrendered one home run in 18 2/3 innings, to the Nationals' Asdrúbal Cabrera in his major league debut on Aug. 14.

Orioles starters have posted a 2.94 ERA in the last 10 games.

Nick Pivetta is making his Red Sox debut tonight after the Phillies traded him on Aug. 21 for relievers Heath Hembree and Brandon Workman.

Nathan Eovaldi starts Wednesday and Martín Pérez Thursday to close out the series.

The last-place Red Sox are 9-19 at home and 20-34 overall, three games behind the Orioles.
