Tejada deal now official (update)

The Orioles announced that they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Wynn Pelzer from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Miguel Tejada and cash. Pelzer, 24, is 26-23 with a 3.83 ERA and has 330 strikeouts in 79 games (68 starts) over three minor league seasons. The right-hander is 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA (94 1/3 IP, 44ER) and 83 strikeouts in 22 games (18 starts) for the Double-A San Antonio Missions this year. In 2009 with Single-A Lake Elsinore, Pelzer went 11-8 with a 3.94 ERA (150 2/3 IP, 66ER) and 147 strikeouts in 27 starts. A ninth-round selection by the Padres out of the University of South Carolina in the 2007 First Year Player Draft, Pelzer was named the 7th-best prospect in the San Diego organization prior to the 2010 season by Baseball America. The same publication named Pelzer's fastball and slider as the best in the Padres' minor league system. Update: I just arrived at the MASN studio for O's Xtra. I didn't have time to make any follow-up calls after learning of the pending trade, and the Orioles sent out their press release while I was driving, which is the norm. Anyway, a few more fun-facts about Pelzer: According to Pelzer's bio from the University of South Carolina, his hobbies include watching television and crossword puzzles. His favorite food is BLT sandwiches. His favorite actor is Dave Chappelle. I just wanted you to feel a little closer to him.
