Tolleson recalled, Chavez to DL (with quotes)

The Orioles have recalled Steve Tolleson from Triple-A Norfolk and he's starting in left field tonight. Endy Chavez goes on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring. "It's disappointing, but what can I say?" Chavez said. "I feel pretty close, but I understand the situation with the team right now. They had to make a move, but it's not fun. It's disappointing. Hopefully, I'll get healthy pretty soon. Chavez injured his hamstring running to first base Tuesday night. He went on the DL earlier this year with a strained left oblique. "I feel a lot better," he said, adding that he'll be ready before his 15 days are up. "Just coming off the DL, to go back on it again, for me it's not fun." Tolleson didn't have to stay in the minors for the minimum 10 days because he's replacing a player going on the DL. He's batting .237 with two homers and six RBIs in 12 games with the Orioles this season. Robert Andino is making his first start at third base. For the Orioles: Brian Roberts 2B J.J. If the Orioles beat the Pirates tonight, it will be their first interleague sweep since June 25-27, 2010, when they swept the Nationals in Baltimore. In his four games during this interleague homestand, Davis is batting .412/.474/1.000 with a double, three homers, eight RBIs and five runs scored. At home this season, Davis is batting .319 (29-for-91) with four doubles, nine homers, 23 RBIs and a 1.029 OPS in 26 games. Jones (five) and Wilson Betemit (four) lead the majors in home runs in close/late-game situations, which means the game is in the seventh inning or later and the batting team is leading by one run, tied, or has the potential tying run on base, at bat or on deck. Chavez helped off injury wide.jpgFour of the top 13 reliever ERAs in the American League belong to Orioles: Jim Johnson (fourth, 1.26), Pedro Strop (seventh, 1.44), Darren O'Day (12th, 1.78) and Luis Ayala (13th, 1.82). The Orioles have 28 hits in the last two games, setting a season high over a two-game span. They had 27 hits over two games June 3-5. The Orioles have 17 extra-base hits in the last five games after posting 16 extra-base hits over the previous nine. The Orioles have hit nine home runs in the last five games after hitting nine in their previous 12 games.
