Updating Gonzalez and Norris

ARLINGTON, Texas - Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez said the MRI taken on his right side yesterday came back negative and he still hopes to start this weekend at Camden Yards. The Orioles are prepared to put Gonzalez on the 15-day DL, backdated to Saturday, and recall Kevin Gausman from Triple-A Norfolk or use left-hander T.J. McFarland. However, they will wait until Gonzalez plays catch on Friday before making a final decision. "It's a lot better," said Gonzalez, who has registered four consecutive quality starts. "Today I won't do anything, just give it an extra day and just play catch tomorrow and see how it feels. But it's a lot better. I'm at like 90 percent right now, so I'm happy about it. "MRI was negative, just a little swelling. Maybe I pulled it a little bit, but it wasn't too bad like in my oblique. But it feels a lot better, so I'm happy about it." Gonzalez said he woke up Tuesday morning and couldn't get out of bed. "Gradually, it's a lot better now, so I'm happy," he said. "Obliques, this is my first time having it. I haven't had any problems with it. It was just a pull. It was nothing to be worried about. It all depends on how fast I'm going to heal and if I don't have to go on the DL, it will be a lot better. "We're not sure if I'm going to be able to throw Saturday, but based on what I feel today and what I was feeling earlier, I think it's a lot better. Maybe I make the start Saturday or Sunday. I don't know. Definitely, I'm not thinking about going on the DL. That's for sure. "We'll play catch tomorrow and we'll go from there on a day by day basis and hopefully be back as soon as possible." Bud Norris, hit on the right forearm last night, expects to make his next start Monday against the Red Sox at Camden Yards. The swelling has gone down, but he's still sporting the imprints of the baseball stitches. He wears it well. In the meantime, Norris will throw his bullpen session Saturday and continue to keep the arm iced tonight.
