Zimmerman continues to hit well during rehab stint

The high Single-A Potomac Nationals beat the Winston-Salem Dash 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Zimmerman-Swings-Red-Home-Sidebar.jpgFirst baseman Ryan Zimmerman drove an RBI double to left-center, one of his two hits. He also had a walk. Zimmerman has played four games for the P-Nats and two games with Double-A Harrisburg as he rehabs the right foot planta fasciitis that landed him on the injured list. He has hit .375, going 6-for-16 with three RBIs and five walks.

The P-Nats continue their homestand tonight, beginning a four-game series with Myrtle Beach. One scenario could have Zimmerman playing for the P-Nats again tonight and then returning to the Nationals. Washington begins a homestand tomorrow night against the Orioles with the Marlins arriving Friday night and the Mets on Monday afternoon.

* Triple-A Fresno beat Albuquerque 5-3 in its last road game of the season. Right-hander Scott Copeland fired seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with a career-high nine strikeouts. Matt Reynolds, Yadiel Hernandez and Taylor Gushue cranked homers.

* The Eastern League announced that Double-A Harrisburg right-hander Aaron Barrett has been selected to the season ending All-Star team as the relief pitcher. Barrett is the first Senator named to the Eastern League season ending All-Star team since Pedro Severino and Richard Bleier were named to the 2015 team.

Barrett leads the league with 28 saves, and has 60 strikeouts and a 2.61 ERA over 48 1/3 innings in 46 games.

The 31-year-old Barrett, a ninth-round selection in 2010 for the Nationals, is the Senators' all-time saves leader. Overall in his career with the Senators, he has saved 54 games in 61 attempts.

It's obvious Barrett has returned to form and has been patient to pitch an entire season with the Double-A team. He deserves a shot with a September call-up.
