The Orioles today announced that they have declined their 2015 club option on catcher Nick Hundley.
Hundley, 31, hit .233/.273/.352 with five home runs and 19 RBI in 50 games for the Orioles after being acquired from San Diego on May 24.
The Orioles now have 31 players on their 40-man major league roster.
Come Tuesday night, when you're tired of channel surfing to find something - anything - other than election results, you can tune to ESPN for a civics and history lesson with a Nationals twist.
As part of its "30 for 30" series, ESPN will present "Brothers in Exile," which chronicles the path that led two half-brothers - ex-National Livan Hernandez and Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez - to defect from their native Cuba for a chance to play baseball in the major leagues.
The siblings, both...

Seems others have noticed, too.
Stadium Journey, a website that chronicles venues for college and pro sports across North America and beyond, is out with its 2014 Major League Baseball Ballpark Experience Rankings, and...

Palm Beach County commissioners this morning voted 5-2 to approve $108 million in hotel bed tax revenues that will help fund the new spring training facility the Nationals and Houston Astros want to share.
The teams now have 90 days to find a suitable site to build a new stadium, practice fields, offices and other facilities that would be used for both spring training and Grapefruit League games.
"It's a critical step in the success of keeping Major League Baseball on the east coast of...
The last time I saw J. Frank Cashen, the longtime Orioles executive who was an architect of the team's powerhouse clubs from the 1960s and 1970s, was in August 2012 at the annual Orioles Hall of Fame luncheon. I rode an elevator with Cashen, then 86, who reveled in being surrounded by Baltimore baseball fans and Hall of Famers from the club.
"Isn't this a fantastic day?" a smiling, ruddy-faced Cashen said when I shook his hand upon being introduced to a man who qualifies as Baltimore...
The Nationals' hopes to partner with the Houston Astros on a shared spring training complex in Palm Beach County have run into another obstacle: West Palm Beach, which owns the 160 acres the teams are targeting, is considering a $14 million offer for the property from a developer who wants to build there.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, city commissioners in West Palm Beach have decided to pursue a deal that would place town houses, retail businesses and a new park on the tract,...
Everything Dmitri Young thought he knew about baseball changed over the course of two weeks in Phoenix earlier this month. Now, armed with an innovative insight into the game he loves, the former Nationals first baseman is setting his sights on a new career path.
The 41-year-old Young, who revived a moribund career with the Nats in 2007 to become an All-Star, recently graduated from Major League Baseball's scouting development program, an intensive two-week course affectionately known as...

BALTIMORE - Josh Willingham readily admits there were times during his 11 major league seasons that he wondered whether he'd ever taste the promised land of baseball's postseason.
He was a part of the Nationals squad that went 59-103 in 2009, setting the stage for the team to take outfielder Bryce Harper with the first selection in the following year's First-Year Player Draft. Five times during his career, he's been on teams that lost 91 or more games. It would have been six had the...
The 96 victories the Nationals amassed this year, the 17-game bulge over the Braves in the National League East, all the hopes and dreams of a deeper run than in the 2012 postseason - all evaporated Tuesday night in a 3-2 loss to San Francisco in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.
The Giants advance to face the Cardinals in the National League Championship Series. The Nationals go home.
The emotional swing in the decisive seventh inning was gut-wrenching. Any momentum the Nationals...
The throw from Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy had barely nestled into first baseman Steve Pearce's mitt to end Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Friday when fans were already clamoring for MASN to re-air the thrilling game as an "Orioles Classic."
Well, we heard the requests on Facebook and Twitter, and you'll now get your wish.
What better way to prepare for Friday's opening game of the American League Championship Series against the Royals than to relive Game 2 of the ALDS,...
Say this about Nationals manager Matt Williams: He's immensely even-keeled regardless of the situation. It's hard to tell if he's eight runs up or eight runs down just by looking at the expression on his face.
In his postgame meeting with the media following the Nationals' 4-1 win over the Giants in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, Williams was his typical focused and unflappable self, refusing to bite on questions about his team's two games to one hole in the best-of-five...
Jordan Zimmermann passed the time after he exited in the ninth inning of Saturday night's Game 2 of the National League Division Series bouncing between the dugout and clubhouse, watching a parade of relievers travel down the tunnel from the field. Since the game lasted 18 innings - at 6 hours, 23 minutes, it was the longest postseason game by time in major league history - he had a lot of time to ponder what might have been.
But if you expected Zimmermann to second-guess manager Matt...
The only thing that's changed in the Nationals starting lineup for Game 2 of the National League Series against the Giants is the starting pitcher.
Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, coming off the team's first no-hiter since arriving in D.C. from Montreal for the 2005 season, takes the hill to try to square the NLDS at one game apiece.
The Giants are going with the same batting order they trotted out in their Game 1 victory, save for starting pitcher Tim Hudson.
For the GiantsCF Gregor Blanco2B...
There are few guarantees in life. Among them are death, taxes, poor life choices by Miley Cyrus and the fact that Giants right-hander Tim Hudson usually has his way with the Nationals.
The 39-year-old Hudson has practically enjoyed a stellar season's worth of stats against the guys with curly Ws on their cap over his 16 big league seasons. He's 18-5 with a 2.35 ERA in 31 career starts versus the Nats. At Nationals Park, he's gone 6-1 with a 2.85 ERA in 10 games. He even dominated the Nats in...
Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond couldn't hide the disappointment. Losing the first game of the best-of-five National League Division Series was one thing, but twice failing to come through with runners in scoring position and striking out on both occasions obviously left a bad taste in his mouth.
"We were in it the whole way," he said after the Nats' 3-2 loss in Game 1 of the NLDS at Nationals Park. "We battled back. It just wasn't enough today."
The Nationals may have rebounded from a...
Reading between the lines of Nationals manager Matt Williams' comments in his media session this morning, Ryan Zimmerman could be pointing toward a start in Game 3 of the National League Division Series when the Giants start left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Zimmerman said yesterday that he is comfortable coming off the bench, and that will be his role today in Game 1. Williams opted to start Anthony Rendon at third base and Bryce Harper in left field, so Zimmerman will be a bat in reserve.
But...
The Washington Nationals today announced their 25-man roster for the 2014 NLDS against the San Francisco Giants. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Washington's roster will consist of 12 pitchers (three left-handed pitchers, nine right-handed pitchers) and 13 position players (two catchers, seven infielders, four outfielders):
Pitchers
LHP Jerry Blevins
LHP Gio Gonzalez
LHP Matt Thornton
RHP Aaron Barrett
RHP Tyler Clippard
