NEW YORK - The Orioles have placed reliever Kevin Gausman on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to yesterday with right shoulder tendinitis and recalled left-hander T.J. McFarland from Triple-A Norfolk.
The club also activated infielder Ryan Flaherty from the disabled list and optioned infielder Rey Navarro to Norfolk.
Gausman is eligible to return from the disabled list on May 22. He pitched an inning on Tuesday and threw five warmup tosses last night.
"He could have pitched tonight. We...
NEW YORK - The Orioles will place pitcher Kevin Gausman on the 15-day disabled list later today with right shoulder tendinitis.
The team noticed an issue with Gausman's shoulder about a week ago and after giving him an anti-inflammatory Thursday will shut him down for the next 72 hours.
Gausman threw an inning in relief Tuesday and struck out two batters in the Orioles' loss to the Mets. On the season, the right-hander has registered a 4.50 ERA in eight games spanning 12 innings. He's...

NEW YORK - Miguel Gonzalez is getting his second look at the Yankees tonight. He's hoping the view hasn't changed.
Gonzalez allowed one run over seven innings on April 14, with one walk and a career-high 10 strikeouts. The current group of Yankees is batting .193 against him, going 21-for-109.
Maybe he's the right guy to play stopper and end a three-game losing streak.
Gonzalez is 3-1 with a 2.59 ERA this season and has allowed one run or fewer in three of his five starts. He's 3-3 with a...
NEW YORK - The Orioles have lost seven consecutive series openers at Yankee Stadium dating back to April 12, 2013.
Why didn't somebody warn us?
The club will make its second consecutive roster move today when it activates Ryan Flaherty from the disabled list. The Orioles are expected to option infielder Rey Navarro to Triple-A Norfolk.
Navarro would have been sent down yesterday if Everth Cabrera had avoided the disabled list.
Navarro is batting .316 (6-for-19), but he hasn't started since...
NEW YORK - The Orioles lost their third game in a row tonight, 4-3 to the Yankees, leaving them winless on their swing through New York.
Chris Tillman allowed four runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings to leave his ERA at 6.25 in 31 2/3 innings.
"It's just frustating for him," manager Buck Showalter said. "After we scored runs, we gave runs right back, and that's where you'd like to get some shutdown innings. And Chris will. He's getting there. He had five days off again. I think once we get...
NEW YORK - Chris Tillman almost served up Alex Rodriguez's 661st home run tonight in the bottom of the first inning, but Delmon Young made a leaping catch at the right field fence and turned it into a sacrifice fly.
Young couldn't save Tillman in the third.
Rodriguez deposited an 83 mph changeup over the center field fence to break a 2-2 tie and move himself past Willie Mays for fourth place on baseball's all-time list.
Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Alex Rodriguez and Willie Mays. How...
NEW YORK - The Orioles have placed infielder Everth Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised left foot and activated shortstop J.J. Hardy.
Cabrera fouled a ball off his foot in the fifth inning last night at Citi Field, but he stayed in the game.
Infielder Rey Navarro would have been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk if Cabrera avoided the DL. Instead, he could be removed from the 25-man roster on Friday when infielder Ryan Flaherty is activated.
Navarro could serve as the backup shortstop...
NEW YORK - To create room for shortstop J.J. Hardy tonight on the 25-man roster, the Orioles will option Rey Navarro or place Everth Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list.
Cabrera was hit on the left foot last night by a pitch from Mets starter Jacob deGrom in the top of the fifth inning. Cabrera stayed in the game and had a few mishaps on the basepaths later in the frame.
Cabrera will have the foot X-rayed this afternoon. He's in an 0-for-17 slump, lowering his average to .205.
Navarro came off...
NEW YORK - Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy said three games at Double-A Bowie were enough to get him back into a major league lineup for the first time this season.
He's tired of waiting.
Hardy is coming off the disabled list this afternoon. The Orioles haven't announced a corresponding move and the lineup card includes one extra player.
Hardy is batting seventh in his 2015 debut after going 4-for-12 with a double and RBI at Bowie. He arrived in New York today with infielder Ryan Flaherty, who...
NEW YORK - Shortstop J.J. Hardy is back with the team and will be in the Orioles lineup for the first time this season. Hardy began the season on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain. He'll bat seventh.
No corresponding roster move has been announced yet.
Infielder Ryan Flaherty took early batting practice this afternoon with outfielder David Lough and catcher Ryan Lavarnway. Flaherty is eligible to come off the disabled list Friday.
Chris Tillman has allowed two earned runs or fewer...
NEW YORK - Chris Tillman is hoping to break a pattern tonight.
Tillman has made five starts this season and allowed one, seven, one, seven and two earned runs for a 6.23 ERA. Both of his quality starts have come against the Rays, including his most recent outing on May 1, when he allowed two runs and three hits over seven innings.
Tillman will try to begin a new quality start streak after Ubaldo Jimenez lasted only four innings last night. Jimenez would have returned for the fifth with his...
NEW YORK - Shortstop J.J. Hardy and second baseman Ryan Flaherty played nine innings tonight at Double-A Bowie, and Orioles manager Buck Showalter is eager to write their names into the lineup at Yankee Stadium.
Hardy went 1-for-4 and Flaherty went 2-for-5. Hardy is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Thursday, with Flaherty joining him the following day.
"We have to talk to J.J. and Ryan in another form, so we've got an idea of what we're going to do," Showalter said after...
NEW YORK - Ubaldo Jimenez lasted only four innings tonight against the Mets, ending the rotation's streak of quality starts at seven in a row.
Starters had worked at least six innings in eight consecutive games before Jimenez's early exit.
Jimenez allowed three runs and six hits in four innings, with two walks, one strikeout and a home run. He threw 85 pitches, 49 for strikes.
Jimenez moved to the on-deck circle with one out in the fifth, but he was called back after Mets starter Jacob deGrom...
NEW YORK - The Orioles were interested in catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, released by the Marlins this week, but I'm told that he's not signing with the club.
It's believed that Saltalamacchia's clearest path to a starting job is with the Diamondbacks.
Caleb Joseph is making the bulk of the starts for the Orioles while Matt Wieters remains on the disabled list. Ryan Lavarnway has started five of the first 25 games.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter is hoping to get Steve Pearce back into the...
NEW YORK - Orioles manager Buck Showalter said it's possible that shortstop J.J. Hardy and infielder Ryan Flaherty could join the team Thursday at Yankee Stadium.
Flaherty isn't eligible to come off the disabled list until Friday, but he could travel with Hardy following tonight's game at Double-A Bowie. Hardy can be activated at any time after beginning the season on the DL with a left shoulder strain.
The Orioles will need to clear roster space for both players, and Showalter didn't...

NEW YORK - Ubaldo Jimenez gets his turn at batting tonight in the finale of a two-game interleague series between the Orioles at Mets at Citi Field.
Jimenez is a career .113 hitter in 10 major league seasons, going 31-for-274 with nine RBIs, 17 walks and 94 strikeouts. He batted .045 (3-for-67) in 2008, .220 (13-for-59) in 2009 and .104 (8-for-77) in 2010.
He'll try to recapture that 2009 magic tonight. He'll also try to produce the rotation's eighth consecutive quality start.
Jimenez is 2-3...
NEW YORK - Bud Norris gave the Orioles a chance to win tonight, as manager Buck Showalter pointed out following tonight's 3-2 loss to the Mets at Citi Field. He just couldn't match veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon, who became the first pitcher to beat a team with seven different organizations.
Colon carried a shutout into the eighth inning before Manny Machado homered. He struck out nine batters and didn't issue a walk, leaving his total at one in 40 1/3 innings.
"Just what he's been...
NEW YORK - With Steve Pearce unable to play tonight in the Orioles' first interleague game of 2015, Jimmy Paredes is getting the start at second base and making the most of his opportunity.
Paredes, considered below-average in the field, made a leaping catch of a line drive from the Mets' Wilmer Flores with runners on first and second and no outs in the second inning. The next batter, Kevin Plawecki, grounded to third baseman Manny Machado, who started a 5-4-3 double play.
