The Orioles handed the Astros their first road series loss of the season with today's rain-delayed 5-4 win at Camden Yards.
It was made possible by Chris Davis' second home run of the day, a solo shot off Astros left-hander Tony Sipp in the bottom of the eighth inning.
A Sipp and a bite, so to speak.
Here's Davis:
On being more patient: "Swung at a couple breaking balls earlier in the count. Thought I did a better job of making an adjustment and making him throw it in the zone. That's big...
BOWIE, Md. - For the first three innings tonight, Bud Norris looked more like the pitcher that went 15-8 with a 3.65 ERA last year than the one that is 1-4 with a 9.88 ERA for the Orioles this season.
On the Orioles disabled list with bronchitis retroactive to May 11, Norris started for Double-A Bowie tonight against Erie. He did not allow a run or hit through three innings, but then Erie got to him for six hits and four runs over the last two frames of his five-inning outing.
After losing 14...
Jimmy Paredes' eight-year journey to the Orioles, as well as a spot among the American League's batting leaders, has a Houston Astros connection to it.
The New York Yankees signed Paredes in 2004, and when the Yankees needed an experienced bat for their 2010 stretch run to the American League East title, they traded Paredes to the Astros in a deal that brought then designated hitter/first baseman Lance Berkman.
The Astros figured Paredes would be their second baseman, but when Jose Altuve...

BOWIE, Md. - Showing a mid 90s fastball and a solid slider, Orioles right-hander Bud Norris started his outing tonight at Double-A Bowie with two scoreless innings against the Erie Seawolves.
Norris retired the side in order on 13 pitches in the top of the first, hitting 95 mph on the Prince George's Stadium radar gun. Shortstop Ozzie Martinez made a very nice play getting the first out on a sprawling catch of a popup in short left field.
Norris hit a batter with one out in the second, but...
Ubaldo Jimenez made fast work of the Astros in the top of the first inning tonight, retiring the side on only six pitches following a rain delay of 1 hour, 11 minutes.
It wasn't that easy in the second inning. Jimenez allowed one run on three hits, including Chris Carter's RBI double that followed singles by Evan Gattis and Colby Rasmus. However, Jimenez stranded two runners in scoring position with a strikeout and foul pop.
Rasmus is 11-for-28 lifetime against Jimenez.
Jimmy Paredes reached...

BOWIE, Md. - Orioles top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy had an MRI this morning in Baltimore that found inflammation, but no structural damage, in his right shoulder.
Bundy said he will rest for a week and then have a follow-up MRI. Why does he need a second MRI?
"Just to re-check it in case the inflammation covered up some other stuff," he told MASNsports.com this afternoon outside the Bowie clubhouse.
"Had the MRI at seven this morning. There is inflammation in the shoulder, so we are going...
Cuban left-hander Ariel Miranda passed his physical and signed a minor league deal with the Orioles.
Miranda compiled a 22-25 record with a 3.78 ERA over 80 appearances (64 starts) in seven seasons in the Cuban National Series. His strikeout/walk ratio was 3.04 (73/24) in 2013, his final year.
More on that later.
The tarp remains on the field following a light rain at Camden Yards. The game won't start on time, which delays Ryan Flaherty's first start with the Orioles since May 11.
Flaherty...
