Game 13 lineups: Nats vs. Pirates

The sun is out, and it's going to be a warm afternoon here on South Capitol Street as the Nationals and Pirates return to action after last night's rainy (and frustrating, for the Nats) affair. They'll try to get back on track with Aníbal Sánchez on the mound, though, as we all know, the performance of the starter matters less than the performance of whichever relievers are summoned from the bullpen to replace said starter.

On that front, the Nationals have a new face in the bullpen today: Austen Williams, who was recalled from Triple-A Fresno and took the Midnight Express from Las Vegas (through Chicago) to get here in time for the game. Williams wasn't off to a great start to his minor league season, but he was great in spring training, posting a perfect 0.00 ERA. So the Nats will hope the right-hander recaptures that form as he replaces Justin Miller, who officially goes on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain.

Kendrick-Chases-Grandal-Red-sidebar.jpgDavey Martinez's lineup includes Howie Kendrick at second base instead of Brian Dozier, and Matt Adams at first base instead of Ryan Zimmerman. Both guys have been swinging hot bats in the last few days, so Martinez will try to take advantage of that and maybe score some extra runs to give the bullpen more cushion. That lineup is facing Chris Archer, who is facing a five-game suspension from Major League Baseball after intentionally throwing at the Reds' Derek Dietrich in his last start but is allowed to keep pitching until his appeal is heard.
