Game 35 lineups: Nats vs. Phillies

This turned into a busier Saturday than initially expected, what with the surprise announcement that the Nationals and Bryce Harper have agreed to terms on a contract for 2018, buying out his final year of arbitration for $21.625 million. That agreement, general manager Mike Rizzo said, should give Harper some comfort and peace of mind as he takes the field every day for the rest of this season.

harper-opening-day-homer.jpgThat begins tonight when Harper and the Nationals host the Phillies in a series opener that was delayed 24 hours due to last night's rainout. The same two pitchers who were supposed to be on the mound last night will be there tonight, with Tanner Roark facing Nick Pivetta.

Roark already is facing the Phillies for the third time this season. He wasn't credited with a decision in either previous encounter, but he pitched well both times (two runs in seven innings on April 15, two unearned runs in six innings on Sunday).

Pivetta, the former Nats prospect who was traded to the Phillies in July 2015 for a guy named Jonathan Papelbon, served up three homers to them last weekend at Citizens Bank Park, getting knocked out after five innings and falling to 0-2 in his young career.
