Game 89 lineups: Nats at Giants

After dropping the first two games of a three-game set at Oracle Park, the Nationals will turn to Erick Fedde (4-5, 4.53ERA) to try to snap a three-game losing streak and end the season's first half on a high note.

The right-hander will be making his 13th start of the season and his second since returning from the injured list with an oblique issue. In his first game back from the injury, Fedde struggled through 4 1/3 innings against the Padres at Nationals Park, allowing six runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Before the injury, Fedde had reeled off two wins and the Nats had won his previous four starts.

Fedde-Deals-Gray-Sidebar.jpgFedde is 2-0 in two lifetime starts against the Giants, posting a 0.00 ERA and a 0.909 WHIP over 11 innings. In San Francisco, he won his only start, going six scoreless innings with no walks and two strikeouts. fe

Current Giants have an aggregate .206/.206/.294 slash line off Fedde. Wilmer Flores is 2-for-5 with the lone home run off the righty.

Fedde will be opposed by All-Star right-hander Kevin Gausman (8-3, 1.74 ERA), whose Sunday start will mean he won't pitch in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday night in Denver. Gausman has lost three of his last four decisions after starting the campaign 7-0.

In 10 career games (nine starts) against the Nationals, Gausman is 5-3 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.459 WHIP.

Current Nationals have a cumulative .298/.340/.489 slash line off Gausman. Kyle Schwarber's three career homers off the right-hander are a moot point with the slugger on the injured list with a hamstring problem, but first baseman Josh Bell is 6-for-19 with a homer and six RBIs and third baseman Starlin Castro is 11-for-42 with a homer and four RBIs.

The Nationals are placing right-hander Kyle McGowin on the 10-day injured list with a right biceps issue and recalling righty Andres Machado from Triple-A Rochester.
