Nats brought their bats to New York (updated)

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Apparently all it took was a change of scenery for the Nationals to start hitting early in ballgames. The Nats have gotten out to a 3-1 lead over the Mets after three innings here at Citi Field, and they already have seven hits off New York starter Mike Pelfrey. Hey, even Jayson Werth has his first base hit of the 2012 season - a triple to the right-center field gap, which followed an 0-for-11 start. Washington jumped on top in the first after three straight base hits by Danny Espinosa, Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche pushed across a run. Zimmerman and LaRoche were again part of the scoring action two innings later when Zimmerman's RBI double plated Ian Desmond for the Nats' second run of the night and LaRoche followed with another RBI single. LaRoche was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double - even though the Nats' first baseman clearly looked like he beat the tag at second - which came back to hurt Washington when Werth immediately followed with his triple. Werth was stranded at third when Mark DeRosa grounded out to end the third. Pelfrey helped his own cause in the bottom of the third when he doubled leading off the inning and then scored on David Wright's RBI single. Edwin Jackson has allowed the one run and three hits for the Nats through three. Update: And now Edwin Jackson has allowed three runs and four hits through four. Jackson gave up a two-out, two-run homer to center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (what a name) that tied the game in the fourth inning.
