Split-squad lineups: Nats vs. Astros and Mets

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - And so we have reached final day of spring training. Yes, the Nationals' charter (not to mention the commercial flights us reporters use) will be heading back to Washington tonight. Anybody who doesn't swing at the first pitch during today's game deserves to be fined.

Make that today's games. Plural. For some bizarre reason, the Nationals have split-squad games today: One at home against the Astros, one on the road against the Mets. Given the travel situation, almost all of the big leaguers are staying back here for the home game. But a few guys were required to make the road trip, and they're likely to play a few innings and then hightail it back from Port St. Lucie so they don't hold up the charter. Good planning, guys!

corbin-patrick-delivers-white-spring-sidebar.jpgIt's Patrick Corbin pitching here, his final tune-up before the lefty makes his Nationals debut one week from today against the Mets. It's Joe Ross pitching in Port St. Lucie, his final tune-up before the righty heads to Fresno to open his season and wait for his services to be needed in D.C.
