30 Rocked

The Orioles scoreless streak, dating back to Brad Bergesen's first-inning balk at Anaheim Friday night, ended at 30 innings tonight when Jed Lowrie hit a two-run homer off Brian Matusz in the fifth inning. After 30 straight, Lowrie rocked one out to left as Matusz found too much of the middle of the plate on a 3-1 pitch. That cut the O's lead to 3-2 and was Lowrie's fourth homer. Matusz has fanned David Ortiz twice tonight and Big Papi is now 0 for 8 with 7 strikeouts vs. the lefty. Meanwhile, in game one of a doubleheader tonight, Princeton won 10-4 at Bluefield and now the Orioles have one game left and that will be it for 53 years of an O's farm club in Bluefield. Orioles shortstop Jonathan Schoop, an 18-year-old from Curacao, hit a two-run homer in that loss. He is finishing with a big kick and is 9 for 15 with two homers and 7 RBI over his last four games. On the year, he is batting .316-2-16 in 39 Bluefield games. At Connecticut tonight, Manny Machado is 0 for 3 and and Mychal Givens is 1 for 3 vs. the Tigers. Machado is the DH for Aberdeen tonight.
